“Dim” marks a very special release putting on the map an Iranian project. Released in 2006 by Amduscias Records and considered to be the first Iranian dark ambient record, Dim has a reissue in 2018 by Zal records. The artist has a longue underground history, he played Black Metal under NaHaN (an album on Amduscias Records, USA) and continues with Xerxes The Dark in parallel with another project Nyctalllz.
Iranian people are the heirs of a remarkable civilisation and the nation preserves a continuity between the greatness of the Persian kingdom and the imams of the new religion. The classic Persian world cherished greatly poetry and this love and admiration for beauty has passed on every generation.
Xerxes The Dark compositions are made of bleak movements displaying a concentrated sadness through which things and feelings are made abstract and dissolve into distances. These moments of detachment from the dimness of life acquire sublime effects by a musical atmosphere which is at once touching, alive and relaxing. Every track circles around the word “dim”, a recurrence of painful implications into the artist’s existence. Melodies are of an evocative nature and they are sounded as if through a misty curtain that diminish their potential but increase the mystery and vague feeling of intimacy. This sought of distance from the listener confers a spectral coloration to the music. Every of his sequences are very persuasive accounts of his talent and emotive nature. Dim is by all means a very well worth exploring ambient album and binds the listener to discover the other outputs by Xerxes The Dark.
