ENG: Rattling chains, reverb suggesting that I’m in a large, empty room; the atmosphere is gradually thickening; some unnatural voices in the distance. This is the first track. In the second one, the rhythm takes a more concrete form, something similar to melody shows up (on 4 notes, but still) and a bit of feminine wailing. It’s also somehow more industrial. Therefore I thought, that we’re dealing with a musical story of a psychiatric hospital near a factory. I sighed heavily.
Dolorism comes from France, and from what I discovered their music is inspired by the Gnostic tradition and Kabbalah. Personally I wouldn’t reach so deeply while searching for an interpretation of “The J5ils Of Elyseum”. In most cases, the title of a piece is more or less coherent with the sounds emanating from the speakers. All you have to do is imagine some not too sophisticated horror story, using the titles as points of reference, and just go with the flow. I don’t think that any hidden agenda should be traced here.
However, I’m not particularly impressed by any aspect of “The J5ils Of Elyseum”. The album is long and the pieces don’t differ very much from one another: at most the musician changes the intensity of the industrial element vis-à-vis that of sounds straight from the lunatic asylum. At the same time, there’s not so much actual music in the music. Something pounds here, something grinds there, sometimes the musician manages to create an ordered structure, but I have the feeling that many moments are but the effects of a coincidence. It happened like this, so let’s just leave it as it is. Add to this the 70+ minutes of the release… well, I won’t lie to you, it was quite a tiring adventure.
A few good fragments you can husk out of this, like “Memories Of Lovely Thing”, that sports a form closer to a traditional song structure. “In Remembrance Of Chokmah” isn’t bad either. It’s long, with a ritual feeling and Middle East accents. I will mention “Centralia” too, but not because I’m delighted by it; rather due to the fact that it unfits completely from the rest. On the digipack it’s even mentioned that someone else is performing it. It’s sort of doom metal with a long acoustic introduction, and I don’t see the point of placing it here, except for the extension of the whole thing.
I’ve nothing more to add. I wish the musician good luck and perseverance, but probably a lot of water still needs to flow in Acheron until Dolorism capture me completely.

PL: Pobrzękujące łańcuchy, pogłos sugerujący, że jestem w rozległym, raczej pustym pomieszczeniu, stopniowo gęstniejąca atmosfera, jakieś nienaturalne głosy w oddali. To utwór pierwszy. W drugim rytm przybiera bardziej konkretną formę, pojawia się coś na kształt melodii (na 4 nuty, ale zawsze) oraz odrobina kobiecego zawodzenia. Zrobiło się też jakby bardziej industrialnie. Pomyślałem zatem, że mamy do czynienia z muzyczną opowieścią o psychiatryku umiejscowionym nieopodal jakiejś fabryki. Westchnąłem ciężko.
Dolorism pochodzi z Francji, i z tego, co zdołałem się dowiedzieć, muzyka tegoż inspirowana jest tradycjami gnostyckimi i Kabałą. Osobiście nie sięgałbym tak głęboko szukając interpretacji “The J5ils Of Elyseum”. W większości przypadków tytuł utworu jest mniej lub bardziej tożsamy z tym, co później spływa z głośników. Wystarczy zatem wyobrazić sobie fabułkę jakiegoś niezbyt wyrafinowanego horroru wykorzystując wspomniane tytuły jako wskazówki i jedziemy z koksem. Nie wydaje mi się, aby należało się tu doszukiwać drugiego dna.
Nie porwało mnie jednak “The J5ils Of Elyseum” w żadnym aspekcie. Płyta jest długa, poszczególne numery w gruncie rzeczy niewiele się różnią – muzyk zmienia co najwyżej natężenie elementu industrialnego względem brzmień rodem z zakładu dla obłąkanych. Przy czym mało w tym wszystkim muzyki w muzyce. Tu coś wali, tam coś zgrzyta, czasem w którymś fragmencie muzykowi udaje się nawet stworzyć w miarę uporządkowaną strukturę (tzn. słyszę, że zagrane jest to, co sobie wcześniej zamierzył), ale mam wrażenie, że wiele fragmentów jest dziełem przypadku. Skoro już tak wyszło, to wrzućmy to tak jak jest. Dodając do tego fakt, że wydawnictwo jest długie, bo liczy sobie ponad 70 minut… no nie będę ściemniać, męczyłem się.
Parę dobrych momentów da się z tego wyłuskać. “Memories Of Lovely Thing”, mający formę najbardziej zbliżoną do tradycyjnej, piosenkowej. “In Remembrance Of Chokmah”, długi, o rytualnym zacięciu, z akcentami bliskowschodnimi. Wspomnę też o “Centralia”, nie dlatego, że szczególnie mnie zachwyciła, ale raczej ze względu na fakt, iż jest to numer zupełnie odstający od reszty. Zresztą na digipacku jest nawet wspomniane, że jego wykonawcą jest ktoś inny. To coś w rodzaju doom metalu o długim akustycznym wprowadzeniu i generalnie nie bardzo widzę sens wrzucania tu tej kompozycji, poza sztucznym wydłużeniem całości.
Nic więcej do dodania nie mam. Życzę muzykowi powodzenia i wytrwałości, ale chyba jeszcze wiele wody w Acheronie upłynie zanim Dolorism zawładnie mną bez reszty.
