Black Nail Cabaret – Chrysanthemum

[reviewed by: Peter Marks]

They’ve gone beyond just creating songs, BNC these days release stories and aren’t they magnificent.

It’s not just pop -as they’re continually described- they have those beats which people fall in love with but for this writer the darkness permeates effortlessly through quite a rather fantastical musician Arvia Krisztian never mind Emese.

Her voice continues to dive farther into an endless, nuanced reality. Along with Danielle Dax, Kate Bush and Siouxie one can instantly recognize what is in both ears via Black Nail Cabaret; how she continues to discover these expanding layers is beyond me.

With six albums now out feel free and enjoy their output, even if it takes quite a while to get through these works… the imagination flows through this pair without ever becoming shallow or predictable. Such smoothness, so many times each piece shifts as though they knew precisely how this entire album would transform.

The deluxe version of ‘Crysanthemum’ runs all over that garden; those flowers may look simply beautiful but beneath that shine one will become enraptured without ever noticing those nestles jabbing viciously tailored.

One hint: “The KIlling” and “Weeding”.
