PL: Ok, powiem wprost: łykam wszystko, co wychodzi sygnowane nazwą Loki lub Power & Steel. Zastanawiałem się nawet ostatnio czy jest w ogóle jakikolwiek sens abym dalej pisał coś o kolejnych ich materiałach – czasem nawet ze zwykłej przekory aż mnie korci, żeby wetknąć szpilę tu czy tam… Ale nie potrafię – co wydadzą nowego, ja to łykam, zachwycam się, a wszyscy wokół śmieją się z mojego, nieomal bałwochwalczego stosunku do Niemców.
I co? Mamy “Baikal” autorstwa S.E.T.I. A może się potknęli, może w końcu wypuścili w świat chłam tylko dlatego, że to Lagowski? Gdzie tam… kolejna, któraś już z kolei płyta w dorobku Andrew to dark ambient najwyższej próby. Na “Baikal” S.E.T.I. balansuje pomiędzy nastrojowymi pejzażami dźwiękowymi o kosmicznej proweniencji a atmosferą niepokojącą, nieco zindustrializowaną, rdzewiejącą raczej niż ultranowoczesną. Już pierwsze dwa utwory, a właściwie kontrast, opozycja w jakiej do siebie stoją, dają dobry obraz całości. “Powder Canyon” to przepiękne, analogowe pływy dźwiękowe, z kolei “Antimatter II” zakłóca błogostan głębokim dronem zewsząd atakowanym przez abstrakcyjne sprzężenia, szumy, mikrotrzaski, niczym z zyskującego własną świadomość elektronicznego sprzętu radiokomunikacyjnego. Im bliżej końca utwór zbliża się niemal do estetyki noise’owej. Kolejne utwory balansują właśnie między jednym a drugim zestawem nastrojów, nigdy nie przechylając jednak szali na którąkolwiek ze stron. Raz jest błogo i spokojnie tylko po to, aby chwilę później zanurzyć się w ciemną otchłań. A moim ulubionym fragmentem płyty jest “Cosmic”, wspaniały numer, w którym na tle niezwykłych, sennych syntezatorowych pasaży pewien chłopiec opowiada dorosłemu mężczyźnie o swoim bliskim spotkaniu trzeciego stopnia. Ten utwór w szczególności, ale generalnie, jako całość płyta ma bardzo statyczny charakter, jest trochę jak mgła, sprawia wrażenie pewnego zawieszenia w czasie i przestrzeni, co również bardzo mi odpowiada.
Naprawdę trudno mi tu znaleźć jakikolwiek słaby punkt. Jedna z najlepszych płyt zeszłego roku. A na pewno ta, której najbliżej do motta Santa Sangre. Blissful nightmares & mechanical dreams. To jest “Baikal”. Kupować.

ENG: Ok, let me say this straight: I swallow everything which is released under Loki/Power & Steel flag. Lately I was even wondering does it make any sense, I mean writing about their new releases, because you know, sometimes even out of perversity I just itch to sting here or there. But I simply can’t – whatever new they release, I’m bewitched and everyone around just laugh at me because of my almost idolatrous respect to that German label.
And what do we have here? “Baikal” by S.E.T.I. Maybe they slipped? Maybe they released crap only because it’s Lagowski? Of course not… Another (I don’t remember which one) album by Andrew is a piece of dark ambient of the highest caliber . On “Baikal” S.E.T.I. balances between atmospheric, even cosmic soundscapes and more dark and disturbing moods, a bit industrialized, but rather in “rusty” than ultra-modern way. Look at first two tracks, and the contrast, opposition in which they stand to each other. It gives a pretty good picture of the whole thing. “Powder Canyon” and its beautiful, analog, sound tides. And next “Antimatter II” disturbes that bliss with deep drone interfered by abstract feedbacks and noises which sound like generated by old radiocommunication equipment which suddenly got his own awareness. The closer to the end the song becomes more and more noisy. And as I mentioned, next tracks balance between these two sets of moods though it’s never turned to neither scale. In one moment there’s peace and bliss, and a moment later we plunge into dark abyss. My favourite part of “Baikal” is “Cosmic” – absolutely breathtaking track where we have some dreamy synth passages and a little boy who tells the story of his close encounter of the third kind. This track in general, but the album as a whole, has very “static” character, is like a fog, gives the impression of suspension in time and space. And that suits me very well.
It’s really hard for me to find any weak spot of this record. It’s one of the best albums of last year. And certainly the one closest to the Santa Sangre motto. “Blissful nightmares & mechanical dreams”. This is “Baikal”. Buy it.
