Russell Kent plays guitar in Noothgrush and Alaric and hosts The No Other Radio Network a weekly experimental radio programme since 1996.
Tell us your way for a succesful or happy life. Do you think that man is able to live free from religion? What do you think is the meaning of our existence?
For me success and happiness come from being creative and staying busy with my art. When I am able to effectively channel my muse, or when I’m able to still my mind and thoughts enough to allow ideas to flow through… this is success. Happiness is the natural companion of this condition but simply being able to spend most of my time being actively creative with music and art makes me very happy. I also teach Guitar which is incredibly fulfilling and being involved with someones creative growth and musical abilities especially young people, comes with a sense of absolute happiness.
How would you sum up your musical activity in 2015?
2015 found me at the peak of my creativity. Being the guitarist of two working bands that are both writing, recording and touring has me rehearsing five nights a week and balancing schedules to avoid conflicts with shows, etc. this is at times hectic for example I returned from a two week tour in Europe with Alaric on a Thursday afternoon and was at rehearsal with Noothgrush that evening and played a big festival on Friday night. Playing shows in the U.K. was a nearly lifelong dream of mine which was finally realized in 2015. Alaric wrote and recorded the most amazing record I’ve ever been a part of and Noothgrush is currently in the middle of writing their new album and in this process both bands are getting ever closer to the essence of what it is that they do, the feelings and energies that they create.
Is there any film / book / theatrical play / exhibition / computer game which made a particular impression on you in 2015?
Sadly, I have little time for much besides music so I rarely go to movies and I have no time for computer games! I did go see Dark Star: H.R. Giger’s Welt which had a deep effect on me. It is amazing that he allowed us to see inside his creative process and to be, in a way part of the end of his incredible life.
Did this year change you in any way, changed your perception of the world, perhaps opened your eyes on something? Yes. For as much of the bad things going on in the world there are far more good things happening and I’m trying to let my consciousness dwell there as real people get more real and the mass media and all of it’s madness fades behind me.
Any moment of 2015 you’ll remember on your death bed?
For me 2015 was filled with incredible moments, I hope to feel that deep glow that comes from within when I experience connections with those I am close to in this incarnation at the moment of my death.
Your predictions for the world (in the political and cultural context) for 2016?
I hope that 2016 accelerates the absolute end of the old paradigm.
Your personal plans, hopes, expectations for 2016?
I Plan to stay on my path and work as hard as I can with music and teaching. Both of my bands already have incredible things in place for this year.
I Hope that many more people on this planet align themselves with a universal consciousness of peace and love and care of our planet.
I Expect that the old ones will cling tightly to their old ways as the lies and ways of the past crumble beneath them and this won’t be a pretty sight however something better awaits so hold on tight!
