It’s been a while since last full length Svartsinn album (not counting the split with Northaunt). Let’s check then how was this year for Svartsinn’s mastermind, Jan Roger Pettersen.
Tell us your way for a succesful or happy life. Do you think that man is able to live free from religion? What do you think is the meaning of our existence?
Life (for me at least) is more like a rollercoaster, being constantly happy is a myth imo. I can’t say that I have a good “formula”, just trying to set some goals, enjoy life and catch some good experiences where I can. But I think it is important to be true to yourself and be fair and straight with the people around you.
About religion, for me personally it is certainly not a problem to live without it. But knowing a bit of history and seeing how the world still is today, I’d have to say no. But one can hope, of course.
I think the meaning of our existence lies within each and everyone of us. I do not believe we have been put on this earth by any higher power, so I think we need to create our own meaning of life
How would you sum up your musical activity in 2015?
A bit less active that I should have been. A few gigs were played and and a few songs were made, being part of some collaborative projects etc. All in all good, but could have been more active.
How are you going to spend the upcoming holiday season?
I will relax with family and friends, some says at home and some days at my cabin in the mountains. Hopefully catch up on some reading, some music making
and last but not least spend some time outdoors, hiking/skiing.
Is there any film / book / theatrical play / exhibition / computer game which made a particular impression on you in 2015?
I must admit that after reading “The Road” a few years ago, not many books could match that impression. And admit I haven’t finished many books in 2015. Something I need to remedy in 2016…
The same goes for the rest, been a “slow year” in that way, except for movies. I saw some good movies. Particularly “Beyond The Black Rainbow”, left a good impression. The only movie I have seen more that once this year I think.
Did this year change you in any way, changed your perception of the world, perhaps opened your eyes on something?
Well, if it did, my perception of it hasn’t really improved. I can say that much.
Any moment of 2015 you’ll remember on your death bed?
I turned 40 in 2015, I had a good party with great friends in a great place. This I am sure I will remember. I also met and befriended some nice people in 2015, also memorable. Other than that, 2015 didn’t stand out much.
Your predictions for the world (in the political and cultural context) for 2016?
Eeeeh, I try not to predict anything when it comes to politics. But cultural, I think we will see some amazing musical releases and some great gigs/festivals.
Your personal plans, hopes, expectations for 2016?
Plans: New album, some good collaborations, and a few gigs. I try not to have too many expectations. At least not worth mentioning here.
