PL: Docetism to projekt dość niezwykły na polskiej scenie. Maciek Banasik, wcześniej tworzący jako Atum i Topografia, w swoim kolejnym projekcie zasadniczo wykorzystuje podobne środki wyrazu, dąży jednak do celu leżącego lekko obok utartych ambientowych szlaków. Wydana przez odradzające się pomału Bunkier Productions “Endura” to bodajże druga produkcja Docetism, w międzyczasie wyszło kolejnych kilka, istotny jednak jest fakt, że omawiana płyta jako jedyna ukazała się w formie fizycznej.
Arsenał środków podobny jak przy okazji poprzednich projektów. Syntetyczne urządzenia generujące miłe uchu szumy, obfite zastosowanie nagrań terenowych, zastosowanie pogłosów i innych sztuczek urozmaicających brzmienie… A jednak wyszło nieco inaczej. Po pierwsze, Maciek wstrzyknął w swą raczej statyczną jak do tej pory muzykę pokaźną ilość dubowych rytmów, co w kompozycji z chłodnym ambientem przywiodło mi na myśl nordvargrowe Resignation, aczkolwiek są momenty, kiedy Docetism zbliża się stylistycznie do brzmień a la Rod Modell. Bity, często mknące w tle, często subtelne jak bicie serca, te bity to jedno, ale nie wyłącznie na tym zasadza się różnica między tym a poprzednimi wcieleniami Maćka.
Twórczość tego muzyka zawsze miała mocno organiczny posmak, to raczej oczywiste zważywszy na wspomniane wcześniej zamiłowanie do field recordings. Ale na płytach Atum czy Topografii emanowało to jakąś swojskością, przyziemnością. Czułem, że to, o czy opowiada Maciek może się dziać tu i teraz, w uliczce obok albo w parku za następnym skrzyżowaniem. Muzyka Docetism oddziałuje na innych płaszczyznach, to bardziej metafizyczna rzecz. Bliższa Natury w jej najczystszej formie. Wiem, że konceptualnie płyta traktuje o chrześcijańskiej gnozie, heretyckich odłamach religii. Szczerze mówiąc, nie słyszę tu tego szczególnie, mnie to bardziej kojarzy się z duchem rozpływającym się pomiędzy drzewami w śnieżnej mgle, miejscem w głębi lasu gdzie czas staje w miejscu i szumem liści oraz śpiewem ptaków, przez które przemawia nieokreślony byt wyższy. Zresztą każdy niech interpretuje to sobie jak chce, muzyka daje pole do popisu dla wyobraźni.
Na koniec należy też wspomnieć, że na tej najbardziej podstawowej płaszczyźnie muzyka Docetism jest najzwyczajniej w świecie bardziej melodyjna i przystępna od innych projektów Maćka. To też jest przecież ważne. Nie ukrywam, że bardziej od “Endury” podobają mi się te późniejsze nagrania Docetism, których można posłuchać za darmo na Bandcamp, ale i ten srebrny krążek wart jest kilku odsłuchów. Ciekawa, jak na polskie warunki, świeża i dość oryginalna rzecz.

ENG: Docetism is a rather unusual project in the Polish scene. Maciek Banasik, previously releasing his works as Atum and Topografia, essentially uses a similar means of expression in his next project, seeking however an aim which is slightly off the beaten ambient paths in Poland. Released by the slowly reviving Bunker Productions, “Endura” is probably the second release of Docetism. A couple of others have been published, however what is important is that this is the only release in physical form.
As mentioned above, the arsenal of measures is similar to that in the artist’s previous projects. Synthetic devices generating nice and pleasant hums, extensive use of field recordings, reverb and other effects varying the sound. But this time it turned out differently. First, Maciek injected into his rather static music a considerable amount of dub/techno rhythms, which in combination with cold ambient made me think of Nordvargr’s Resignation, although there are moments when Docetism stylistically approaches the Rod Modell type of sound. Bits, often somewhere in the background, often subtle like a heartbeat, these bits are one thing, but not only thing making a difference between this and Maciek’s previous incarnations.
Works by this artist have always had a strong organic flavor, it is rather obvious given the aforementioned passion for field recordings. But on Atum and Topografia it emanated with some kind of familiarity, ordinariness. I felt that stories told by Maciek could happen here and now, in the next alley or the park behind the intersection. Docetism’s music works on different levels, it’s more of a metaphysical thing. Closer to Nature in its purest form. I know that conceptually “Endura” is about Christian gnosis, heretical sects and such. Frankly, I don’t especially hear nor feel this here, it rather reminds me of the spirit deliquescent between trees in the snow fog, a place deep in the forest where time stands still among the sound of leaves and singing birds, which speaks for an indefinite higher entity. Anyway, let everyone interpret it as they wish, the music gives a range of possibilities for the imagination.
Finally, it needs to be mentioned that on the most basic level, Docetism’s music is simply more melodic and accessible than those other projects. This is also important. I must admit that I liked later recordings by Docetism, that you can listen to for free on Bandcamp, more than “Endura”, but this disc is worth some listening as well. Interesting, fresh and quite original as for Polish standards.
