ENG:What is the best? What is the most beautiful? What is intense? How do you look back? Differcult questions, because I do not think in bad, good and best. All these moments are dependent of time, place and mood.
PL: Co można określić jako najlepsze? Co jako najpiękniejsze? Co jest intensywne? W jaki sposób spoglądasz za siebie? To trudne pytania, ponieważ nie rozważam rzeczy w kategoriach dobre, złe, najlepsze. Te wszystkie chwile zależą od czasu, miejsca i nastroju.
ENG: What is the best? What is the most beautiful? What is intense? How do you look back? Differcult questions, because I do not think in bad, good and best. All these moments are dependent of time, place and mood. Anyway… for me 2012 was a intense year. I did a few projects with Alejandra Slutzky and played some performances and concerts in several occasions in the beginning of the year, like Antwerp Ambient and (B)eat the Border festival. Also we created a few exhibitions like Mezzanine about the dreams of women who started a new life in The Netherlands and a installation called “Geworteld.” During this exhibition we shared our memories with visitors by images, sounds, odors and a movie. The reponse of the public was positive and were surprised by the mix of drones, poetry and images.
I have heart a lot of new music this year, but I was happily surprised by the last album “Disorder of Roots” of Fear Falls Burning. The Belgian musician Dirk Serries stopped this project with an overwhelming album and concert in which guitardrones, heavy drums, slow basslines and a grunting voice send the listener to the darkest parts of mankind. Another great album is “Centering and Displacement” of Frank Rosaly from the USA. This album is a great mix between percussion, electronics and drums and creates a dark atmosphere with a lot of space for experiments with sounds and rhythms.
I started to read the well-known Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. I really like his style in which he combines dark inner worlds, surrealistic contacts and the unknown absurd thoughts and feelings of the men and women in his books. He knows how to create another world. I re-started to read the poems of the beat-generation Allen Ginsberg. The dutch publisher IJzer released all his poems with a dutch translation in a fist-thick book. The mix between politics, erotics, religion and drugs is beautiful.
This year I have seen a lot of concerts, but the most memorable are the concerts of Lärm and Seein’ Red. I know their music as I was about 17 years old. Lärm is a hard-coreband which stopped already for many years ago, because according to the singer Menno the band became too famous. Once a year they came together and played their campaign for musical destruction. Three members continued in the band Seein’ Red. But also this band has to stop. The bass-player Jos has an ear-disease, so it became very dangerous to play hard-core punk, if you do not want to get deaf of distortion. Both bands played their latest gig in OCCII in Amsterdam. A lot noise, short songs and sweaty people were the ingredients of an impressive evening.
I have not seen many movies this year, during my nightshifts I started to watch t.v. serials like The Wire and Forbrydelsen to keep my eyes open. But I was suprised by the movie Jagten created by Thomas Vinterberg, who also produced the movie Festen. The silence, the words which have not been said, the anxiety of a village, the fear and aggression in the eyes are very strong tangible.
I really like to be in the water and to swim, so we went for holidays to Atlantic Ocean in the south of France. Over there the sea is strong and the waves are high. I like to body-surf and get tired of the beats of the waves to my body, to relax on the beach and feel the sun burning on my skin. And then there is only the sound of waves, nothing more and nothing less. Just this rhythm…
Since the eighties I have contact Al Conroy (not half) from Canada by exchanging tapes. Nowadays we create music under the name JHACK and send soundfiles by internet and create music, which leads to a few soundtracks of one minutes movies I made for exhibitions and a netrelease at Tree Trunk records.

To trudne pytania, ponieważ nie rozważam rzeczy w kategoriach dobre, złe, najlepsze. Te wszystkie chwile zależą od czasu, miejsca i nastroju. W każdym razie 2012 był bardzo intensywnym rokiem. Zrealizowałem kilka projektów z Alejandrą Slutzky a także zagrałem na kilka koncertów przy różnych okazjach, np. na festiwalach Antwerp Ambient i (B)eat the Border. Zorganizowaliśmy także kilka wystaw np. “Mezzanine” o marzeniach pewnej kobiety, która rozpoczęła nowe życie w Holandii oraz instalację nazwaną “Geworteld.”( zakorzeniony) Podczas wystawy dzieliliśmy się wspomnieniami z gośćmi poprzez obraz, dźwięk, zapach i film. Reakcja publiczności była bardzo pozytywna, byliśmy zaskoczeni tą mieszaniną dronów, poezji i obrazów.
Nasłuchałem się mnóstwa nowych płyt w zeszłym roku, ale na prawdę miłe zaskoczenie wywołał we mnie ostatni album “Disorder of Roots” grupy Fear Falls Burning. Belgijski muzyk Dirk Serries zakończył aktywność owego projektu miażdżącym albumem na którym dronowe gitary, ciężkie bębny, powolny bas i pomrukujący wokal wysyłają słuchacza do najciemniejszych miejsc dostępnych ludzkości. Kolejnym wyśmienitym album jest “Centering and Displacement” Franka Rosaly z USA. To świetny koktajl perkusji, elektroniki i bębnów, które razem kreują mroczną atmosferę, w której znaleźć też można dużo przestrzeni na eksperymenty dźwiękowe i rytmiczne.
Zabrałem się też za czytanie znanego wszem i wobec Haruki Murakamiego. Naprawdę podoba mi się jego styl, w którym łączy mroczne wewnętrzne światy, surrealizm interakcji, absurdalność myśli i uczuć mężczyzn oraz kobiet. Murakami wie na czym polega tworzenie innych światów. Powróciłem do czytania poety pokolenia bitników, Allena Ginsberga. Duński wydawca IJzer wydał grubą jak cegła książkę z wszystkimi jego wierszami w duńskim tłumaczeniu. Mikstura polityki, erotyki, religii i narkotyków jest czymś pięknym.
W zeszłym roku widziałem wiele koncertów ale tym najbardziej godnym zapamiętania był Lärm i Seein’ Red. Muzykę tego zespołu znam od 17-tego roku życia. Lärm jest zespołem hardcorowym, który zaprzestał działalności wiele lat temu, kiedy to ich wokalista Menno zrobił się zbyt sławny. Raz do roku spotykają się wspólnie by odbyć swoistą kampanię muzycznego zniszczenia. Trzej członkowie kontynuowali działalność zespołu pod szyldem Seein’ Red. Ale także się rozpadli. Basista Jos zachorował na infekcję ucha, tak więc granie hardcore-punka stało się dość niebezpieczne, jeśli nie masz zamiaru ogłuchnąć. Oba zespoły zagrały swój ostatni koncert w OCCII w Amsterdamie. Mnóstwo hałasu, krótkie kawałki i spoceni ludzie to główne składniki tego imponującego wieczora.
Nie obejrzałem zbyt wielu filmów tamtego roku, ale żeby nie zasnąć podczas moich nocnych zmian zacząłem oglądać seriale w TV jak np. The Wire czy Forbrydelsen. Niemniej zaskoczeniem był dla mnie film Jagtren, nakręcony przez Thomasa Vinterberga, twórcy filmu Festen. Cisza, niewypowiedziane słowa, małomiasteczkowy niepokój, strach i agresja bijąca z oczu są tam bardzo namacalne.
Naprawdę lubię przebywać w wodzie i pływać, więc wybrałem się na wakacje nad Ocean Atlantycki na południe Francji. W tamtych stronach morze jest potężne a fale wysokie. Lubie surfować i walczyć przeciw falom uderzającym o moje ciało, relaksować się na plaży i czuć jak słońce pali moją skórę. W tym momencie istnieje tylko dźwięk fal. Nic ponad to, nic poza nim.
Od lat osiemdziesiątych mam kontakt z kanadyjczykiem Alem Conroy’em, kontakt, który zaczął się od wymieniania kaset… Obecnie tworzymy wspólnie muzykę pod nazwą JHACK, przesyłamy sobie pliki przez Internet i robimy muzę, która jest wykorzystywana jako ścieżka dźwiękowa do jednominutowych filmów, które nakręciłem na potrzebę wystawy i wydawnictwa internetowego Tree Trunk Records.
