PL: Ten francuski muzyk zdążył już zdobyć parę serc polskich miłośników neofolku swoim koncertem, który kilka miesięcy temu odbył się w Poznaniu. Na imprezie tej nie byłem, ale zgaduję, że udało mu się wyczarować nieco magicznych momentów. Takie myśli sugeruje muzyka zawarta na “Third Eye”. Uciekająca od charakterystycznego dla wielu zespołów neofolkowych nadęcia, lecz jednocześnie dosyć czarująca.
Ciekawe, że Kentin korzystając z dość szerokiej palety brzmień tworzy muzykę skromną, żeby nie powiedzieć ascetyczną. Role wiodącą odgrywa, jak na ten rodzaj grania przystało, gitara akustyczna i głos, którego barwa i maniera mieści się gdzieś w połowie drogi między Douglasem P. i Brendanem Perry. A oprócz tego w tle odnaleźć można mnóstwo nienachalnej, ale i różnorodnej elektroniki podobnie jak brzmień żywych instrumentów. Kentin Jivek umiejętnie i ze smakiem kreuje leniwą, senną atmosferę czerpiąc inspirację nie tylko z klasyków neo/darkfolkowych, ale i z amerykańskich bardów typu np. Josh T. Pearson, tyle że przepuszczonych przez oniryczny welon, oddzielający jawę od snu. Najlepiej i najpiękniej słychać to w dziewiątym “Shiva Is Landing”, w którym gitara akustyczna i jakby dobiegający z oddali, potraktowany pogłosem głos Kentina stoją w opozycji do kosmicznego klawisza, co po zsumowaniu owocuje naprawdę nieziemskimi pięcioma minutami.
Bez napinania się, z, wydawałoby się, wrodzoną swobodą Kentin Jivek tworzy swoje piosenki. Piosenki ujmujące, czasem wzruszające… Chcesz się przenieść na chwilę z tego świata do drugiego, podobnego do naszego, ale takiego, w którym magia funkcjonuje na równych prawach jak pozostałe aspekty ludzkiej egzystencji? Otwórz Trzecie Oko.

ENG: This French musician has already won several of the hearts of Polish neofolk fans during the concert that was held in Poznan a few months ago. I didn’t attend that event, but I guess he managed to conjure up some magical moments. At least the music on “Third Eye” suggested that to me. Music which flees from turgidity, characteristic for so many neofolk bands, and is also quite charming, no doubt about that.
It is interesting that although Kentin uses quite a wide variety of sounds, he makes very modest, occasionally even “ascetic” music. As befits this particular kind of musical creativity, acoustic guitar and male vocals, placed in terms of timbre and manner somewhere between Douglas P. and Brendan Perry, play the most important role here. Apart from this however, you will find in the background a variety of unobtrusive electronic sounds as well as some physical instruments. Kentin Jivek skillfully and tastefully creates a lazy, dreamy atmosphere, drawing inspiration not only from the classic neofolk and dark folk acts, but also from American bards such as Josh T. Pearson, although filtered through the oneiric veil that separates dreams from reality. The musician reaches his best and most beautiful effect in the ninth track, “Shiva Is Landing”, where an acoustic guitar and Kentin’s voice which sound as if they’re coming from a distance, treated with the reverb effect, and are standing in opposition to some fantastic cosmic synths. To sum things up we get five very unearthly minutes of music.
Without putting on airs, Kentin Jivek creates his songs with a seemingly congenital ease. Songs that are enchanting, sometimes even touching… Do you wish to be transported for a while, from this world to another, similar to ours, but one where magic works on equal rights as all other aspects of human existence?
