PL: Time Moth Eye to dla mnie – i podejrzewam, że nie tylko dla mnie – zupełnie nowa nazwa, cho stoi za ni niejaki Timothy Renner odpowiedzialny za kilka interesujcych projektw muzycznych, m.in. Stone Breath. Przyznam jednocześnie, że i muzyka z jaką mam do czynienia na “Undeath”, to coś rzadko spotykanego. Crucial Blast, albo raczej jej pododdział, Crucial Blaze raczy nas tu czymś w rodzaju dark ambient folku. Uprzedzę jednak fakty – jeżeli wydaje się wam, że potraficie sobie po takim określeniu wyobrazić dźwięki zawarte na “Undeath”, to grubo się mylicie.
“Undeath” to dziesięć kawałków, których czas trwania rozciąga się od trzech do ponad jedenastu minut. Szczerze mówiąc nawet nie wiedząc, skąd pochodzi projekt domyśliłbym się, że to Stany Zjednoczone. Wspomniałem wcześniej o dark ambiencie. Nie jest to jednak ambient pojmowany w kontekście syntetycznych dronów, nakładających się na siebie elektronicznych tekstur etc. Ta muzyczna warstwa oparta jest na porozciąganych brzmieniach skrzypiec i wiolonczeli, tak, że wypełniają one tło, na którym pojawiają się powykręcane, żeby nie powiedzieć, “narkotyczne” melodie rodem z głębokiej amerykańskiej prowincji, dusznych luizjańskich bagien czy nieprzystępnych lasów Oregonu. Mimo jednak wszechogarniającej duchoty i ciemności wciąż słychać, gdzie ta muzyka ma swoje korzenie, wciąż słychać tu amerykański folk zahaczający nawet momentami o country. W odpowiednio oczywiście przetworzonej formie.
Limit płyty liczy ledwie dwieście sztuk, a oprawa graficzna zawiera sporo interesujących grafik radem z najciemniejszych zakamarków umysłu Edgara Allana Poe. To po raz kolejny nie jest łatwe słuchanie, ale oddać “Undeath” trzeba, że klimat potrafi roztoczyć nieziemski. Zapraszam do starej stodoły, gdzie zachodzące słońce przebija się przez rozpadający się dach, a tumany kurzu unoszą się w powietrzu, słuchawki na uszy, butelka whisky do ręki, powieść Cormaca McCarthy pod pachę (ale nie “Drogę” – tu lepiej sprawdzają się inne płyty). Sugestywny klimat gwarantowany.

ENG: Time Moth Eye is for me – and not just for me I suppose – a completely unknown name, although the man behind this project is Timothy Renner, known from various musical projects such as Stone Breath for example. Additionally I must admit that the music itself on “Undeath” is something quite uncommon, especially compared to the material I usually deal with. Crucial Blast, or rather its sublabel, Crucial Blaze regales us with a specific mixture of dark ambient and folk. But if after this description it seems to you that you are able to imagine the music on “Undeath” I have to tell you that you’re very, very wrong.
“Undeath” contains ten tracks, the duration of which ranges from three to more than eleven minutes. Frankly, even without knowing where Time Moth Eye comes from I would guess it’s an American project. I mentioned dark ambient above, but it’s not the kind of ambient understood in the context of ambient synthetic drones, overlapping electronic textures etc. It’s rather based on extended violin and cello sounds, that fill the background against which some twisted, not to say, “narcotic” melodies appear, straight from the deep American province, the stuffy swamps of Louisiana or the inaccessible forests of Oregon. But despite the overwhelming, humid darkness you can still distinguish the roots of the music, the elements of American folk or even country music are still noticeable. In properly processed form of course.
The album is limited to 200 copies. The graphic design contains some interesting illustrations straight from the darkest parts of Edgar Allan Poe’s mind. This is not by any means easy listening, but in proper conditions “Undeath” can create some really extraordinary atmospheres. Welcome to the old barn where the sun breaks through the dilapidated wooden roof, and clouds of dust are floating in the air – grab your earphones, a bottle of whiskey in one hand, a Cormac McCarthy novel in the other (but not “The Road” – there are other albums that are better suited to this particular novel). Suggestive atmosphere guaranteed.
