PL: Dobre czasy nastały dla mojego ulubionego gatunku muzycznego. A jeszcze półtora roku temu czułem przesyt, niewiele nowych płyt naprawdę robiło na mnie wrażenie. Starzy wyjadacze zawodzili, młodych utalentowanych projektów ze świecą trzeba było szukać. I nagle jakby coś pękło, i zaczęły się wysypywać znakomite materiały jeden po drugim, w tej chwili właściwie nie ma miesiąca, żeby przynajmniej jedna płyta mnie nie zachwyciła w ten czy inny sposób. A najlepsze w tym wszystkim jest to, że same siebie przechodzą projekty, które do tej pory uważałem za co najwyżej poprawne. Jak w poniższym przypadku.
AB INTRA to nasza polska inicjatywa, debiutująca w 2006 roku w Pro Distri, pododdziale ówczesnej War Office Propaganda. Z kolei poprzedni album, “Aura Imaginalis”, wyszedł trzy lata temu nakładem Zoharum. Jak przez mgłę pamiętam tamtą muzykę, choć zdaje się, że jako tako mi się podobała, aczkolwiek bez zbytniej ekscytacji. Ot wyrobnik jakich wielu. I w życiu bym nie przypuszczał, że następne dzieło Radka, zatytułowane “Supremus” rozerwie mnie na pół i bez ceregieli wgniecie w ziemię.
Radek podjął właściwą decyzję obierając zgoła odmienną drogę niż na poprzedniej płycie. Zrezygnował z inspiracji Zimną Szwecją, wszelkie dosłowne elementy zebrane w wilgotnych lochach lub zapuszczonych fabrykach wyrzucając do kosza. W zamian za to oferuje potężną syntezatorową burzę dźwiękową, bo choć to wciąż dark ambient, intensywnością i gęstością brzmienia zbliża się momentami nawet ku stylistyce noise. Tyle, że w przeciwieństwie do tejże, to muzyka niezwykle emocjonalna, spod tej monolitycznej masy sonicznej raz po raz wyłaniają się przepiękne melodie, ujmujące pasaże i prawdziwie tragiczna atmosfera. Tak naprawdę mógłbym porównać “Supremus” do pewnego artysty, gdyż dostrzegam naprawdę dużo punktów wspólnych pomiędzy ich twórczością. I bynajmniej nie jest to żaden typowy przedstawiciel darkambientowej szufladki. Myślę tu o Timie Heckerze – obaj artyści w podobny sposób przedstawiają piękno i tragizm zakute w hałasie. Może się komuś narażę, ale to, co Radek pokazał na “Supremus” wcale tak mocno nie odbiega od najlepszych dzieł Kanadyjczyka.
Jak dla mnie płyta klasy światowej. Podobnie jak Inner Vision Laboratory, także AB INTRA zasługuje, aby usłyszano o niej nie tylko w naszym kraju. Tego warszawskiemu projektowi życzę, a każdemu złaknionemu niezwykle intensywnych emocji z całą odpowiedzialnością zalecam zakup “Supremus”.

ENG: Good times came for my favourite musical genre. And even two years ago I felt kinda surfeit of such music. The albums of dark ambient old-timers turned out to be a disappointment, looking for young talents was like looking for a needle in a haystack. And suddenly, as if something broke, fantastic releases started to appear one after another. Today I’d say there’s hardly a month without at least one album which makes a great impression on me. And best of all is that I’m also talking here about projects I earlier considered as average at the most.
AB INTRA, our Polish initiative, made its debut in 2006 on Pro Distri, sub-label of War Office Propaganda (as it was called back then). The previous album, “Aura Imaginalis”, came out three years ago thanks to Zoharum Records. I vaguely remember the music on it, although as I recall I quite liked it, though without any undue excitement. One of hundred similar projects and that’s it. And I absolutely wouldn’t expect that Radek’s next work, “Supremus” will tear me apart, and without further ado will squash me to the ground.
Radek made the right decision by choosing entirely different musical way than on the previous album. He gave up Cold Sweden inspirations by throwing away all such literal elements collected in dank dungeons or abandoned factories. In return AB INTRA offers truly powerful synth maelstrom. It’s still dark ambient, but through the intensity and density of sound, the music draws near to noise aesthetics. Though in contrast to that, it’s stunningly emotional work, and from the monolithic mass of sonic storm beautiful melodies, marvellous soundscapes and truly tragic atmospheres emerge again and again. In fact, I could compare “Supremus” to the works of certain artist – I see a lot in common between him and AB INTRA. It’s not the typical member of dark ambient pigeon hole, because I’m thinking about Tim Hecker – both artists in similar way present the beauty and the tragedy hidden in noise shell. Maybe I’ll expose myself to someone, but I think that what Radek showed on “Supremus” is not really that far from Hecker’s best works.
For me it’s a top class release. Just as Inner Vision Laboratory, AB INTRA deserves more attention not only in Poland. I hope that will happen. If you’re hungry for extremely intense emotions with all responsibility I recommend you this album.
